All major newspapers both here in Europe and indeed in the US do “tweet” about art and the response, judging from the number of followers, is surprising lively. Of course Twitter and all other micro-blogging services allow art galleries and museums to advertise their exhibitions, auctions and sales, but what looks even more interesting is the “buzz” generated by individual users.

Imagine: you’re in London (or New York, or Paris, or…) enjoying some of the best museums and art galleries in the world. You check your tweets and find out that a couple of block down the road there is an interesting exhibition in a gallery you didn’t know, where is likely to find some good stuff to buy, or considering buying. And the tip came from a person you decided to follow simply because he was tweeting some interesting stuff.

Multiply this possibility by the number of interesting connections you established using any of the Social Media available, and you’ll start to see the potential. Of course, this is the most obvious use of these powerful gadgets…
